“I’m tired of this COVID thing. I'm over it”

The number of times I have heard this over the past two weeks has been numerous.
I get it!
The novelty of the Novel Coronavirus is wearing off.

We are tired of wearing a mask, sanitizing, physical distancing, the inability to visit or travel as we would like.

When I am out in the mornings, there are times when I wonder if we really have to keep doing this and then I see images on television with large crowds gathering and I grow really concerned and nervous.

In my geographical area, the numbers are declining. It is easy to be lulled into complacency and boredom with the whole thing. This, however, is not the time for boredom. As the incidence of infection reaches record numbers in other areas of the USA we still need to pay attention.

My public service announcement is don’t be lax, or grow complacent. Follow the CDC, your state, your countries guidelines. Universal precautions now include handwashing, physical distancing, and wearing a mask. Protect yourself and others.

To combat the boredom and complacency, over the past few weeks I have focused on making connections or reconnecting with family and friends. These are friends or family members that I haven’t seen in a long time. Did I say a long time? I mean a very long time.

I know many of us are not just tired of the Corona Virus but also  ‘Zoom’ or any form of video conferencing.  However, I did appreciate it when I used it to host a Virtual Reunion of former co-workers.

Fifteen people, many who I haven’t seen for probably 20-plus years. They were calling in from different parts of the country.
Guess what?
Surprisingly we looked the same! :-)

To make it a little more intimate, people were placed in smaller groups using Zoom’s breakout room feature, which allowed for easier sharing and catching up.
Prior to the event individuals shared some fun facts about themselves and polls were created for individuals to guess who the fun fact was about.

A couple of hours online brought back many years of fond and yes, some not so fond memories. Laughter and a shared experience enjoyed by all. New memories created.

The good feeling stayed with me for a few days, and with the few others that I spoke with post-event. More memories came to the forefront of our minds as we thought about the evening.

I also appreciate the connection with extended family members during the weekly Facetime call that brings together family members from England, Canada, the USA, and Australia.

I know these are difficult times but connecting with others is one of the best stress-busters we can practice right now.

Manage the boredom.
Fight the complacency.

How does this relate to pursing life goals and dreams?

Many times when developing new skills or habits, the timeframe for success is daunting. We aren't experiencing immediate results. The outcome is uncertain and we question why are we doing this.
What’s the purpose?
In these times, when we want to give up, we need to reconnect with our reason. We may have to find creative ways to do so.

Bored with Coronavirus and physical distancing, find creative ways to connect with others?
