AHHHH!  I’m Stressed!

How many times...a day, do you hear someone announce this as there current state of being? How often are you verbalizing it, or even thinking it?

We all experience stress and feel overwhelmed at times.
Whether it is about our relationship conflicts, work pressures, frustration with not meeting our own expectations, stress is an inevitable part of our reality.

Fortunately, there are countless ways to relieve stress-meditation, yoga, massage, etc.. However we can’t always put our disagreement with our spouse or coworker on pause to run out for a massage.
I would say most times.

We need some immediate and accessible methods. Luckily for us, we can tune into our senses--SIGHT, SOUND, SMELL, TASTE, TOUCH, for quick relief.

Engaging our senses stimulates areas in our brain that can quickly calm and energize us.

Below are some sense-ible ways to reduce stress. Try to incorporate as many of them into your daily stress-less routine.

Sight
  • Place flowers or plants in your surrounding environmentLava lamp
  • Coloring
  • Look at pictures of loved ones
  • Look at nature- watch the sunset or sunrise
  • Visualize a favorite place or place that feels peaceful and rejuvenating

Sound
  • Listen to binaural beats music
  • Tune in to the sounds of nature- birds chirping, breeze blowing te leaves, raindrops beating on the windows, babbling brook (if you can’t get outside you can find them online
  • Play/stream your favorite uplifting or calming music

Smell
  • Aromatherapy diffuser -lavender oil calms; mint energizes
  • Scented candles or incense
  • Scent of flowers
  • Fresh air
  • Wear your favorite perfume or cologne

Touch
  • Cover with a weighted blanket
  • Pet an animal
  • Hug a loved one
  • Wear clothing soft & comfortable against your skin
  • Play-doh or stress ball
  • Give yourself a neck or hand massage
  • Pulsating water in the shower

Taste
  • Slowly savor your favorite treat or meal.
Emphasis on slowly savor. Mindless eating will add to your stress.
  • Refreshing cool drink
  • Healthy snacks
  • Hot beverages

Stress management is about changing our perspective, letting go so we can move forward.
Not every technique is not going to work for everyone.
Be open and try several.

Be Sense-ible.

Wishing you peace,
