Did you make any Resolutions?

Once you get past the "New Year, New You" hoopla, you will need strategies for staying on track so you can actually achieve your goals—now or any other time of the year.

Stats show that the number of people that keep their new year resolutions is very depressing.
According to a University of Scranton study, approximately 8% of people keep their resolutions.

To help you stay focused so that you can achieve the goals you have for yourself, here are a few strategies.

1. Write it down
Many goals are made in our head; in the abstract. Get serious and write it down.
Make them specific and measurable and write them down on paper, in a journal, even electronically.

Take the goal from the abstract to the concrete.
Write it down every day.
Be specific.
Include the 'where' and 'when' you plan on taking specific actions to achieve your goal.
Writing it down and being specific will keep you focused and your goals will be in the front of your mind daily. This tip can double or triple your chance of success according to Dr. Heidi Grant Hamilton.

2. Have a Back-Up Plan
Whenever we are making changes or attempting anything new, life happens, failure happens. It is all part of the process.
Anticipate that things will come up and plan for it.
Many of us anticipate it but don’t plan for it.
Planning allows us to make adjustments so that we can take the disruption or failure in stride and not let it dampen our motivation.

3. Accountability
According to the American Society of Training and Development, you have a 65% chance of completing a goal if commit to someone. If you commit to a specific accountability appointment your chances of success increases to 95%.

Commit to checking in with a close friend, a mentor or a coach on a regular basis in order to skyrocket your rate of success.
It doesn’t have to be complicated- a regularly scheduled phone call, an email or a text with a status update.

These strategies do not just apply to the goals you make at this time of year.
Anytime you want to make changes, setting goals, these strategies will increase your chances of success.

When it comes to the things you love, the people you love and the life you love what is more important than soaking them up right now!
If it is something you want to do, don’t wait until you become less busy or richer or ‘ready’ or
20lbs lighter or January 1st.

No More Resolutions!

Wish it. Dream it. Do it!
